Weirdly, BREATHS reminds me of Silverstein or maybe Emery, at their best, taking and elevating a genre that I have a huge amount of nostalgia for into something really excellent. An absolute banger.

Death metal has never really been my thing. I get that it’s hugely popular, but I was too young for thrash and missed the initial wave of death completely. Doom and stoner have always connected with me, but there’s something about this album that hits a sweet spot for me. Maybe it’s the occult-tinged theme of tarot cards, or maybe it’s just the homage to that old, dirty, grungy style of death metal that got that whole sub-genre going. Either way, this album is really good. Check it out!
